Evelyn Jane

That's our new baby girl's name.  Evelyn Jane.  I love it.  (If you don't, just don't tell me.  As Thumper's parents liked to tell him, "If you can't say somethin' nice, don't say nothin' at all.")  We're not big name-our-baby-after-someone people or big name-our-baby-a-name-that-has-significant-meaning people.  In fact, typing that sentence just reminded me to go look up what the names mean...done.  Evelyn means hazelnut (maybe that's why I'm loving hazelnut creamer and still drinking coffee during this pregnancy?).  Jane means gracious, merciful or believer in a gracious God (I like it even more now).

I've actually just always loved the name Evie (pronounced ev-ee, not eve-ee).  My mom has a cousin named Evie (though I'm not sure if that's how she spells it).  I've actually only met her once, a few years ago at my great grandma's funeral.  But I've heard the name growing up and loved it.  And I recently found out it was one of my great grandmother's sister's names.  And Kit thought it was a good name too so we've planned for a long time if we had daughters to name the first Elise and the second Evelyn.

As we've been throwing around middle names, Jane just seemed like the best fit.  And it just so happens to be Kit's mom's middle name.  And yes, we do realize that means we'll have Ellie Laine and Evie Jane and will probably be stumbling over their names for the rest of their lives.

Also, I'm 26 weeks today.  I'm excited to be to this point and am thankful for every day that little Evelyn gets to continue growing inside me.  My OB appointment last week went well, and so far everything seems to be good.  Unfortunately, our experience with Elise was that everything can change in a matter of hours so I just keep praying that little Evelyn will go to term.

Today my friend Ashley (who also took amazing photos of Elise's birthday that I'll post on here if she says I can once I get the CD from her) is coming over to do a maternity photo shoot.  I realize that it seems entirely too early, but I didn't get any professional photos done while pregnant with Elise and would like to have some as a memento if I do have Evelyn early.  And if I go to term, I'll definitely get more photos taken later.

Evelyn is the first name I REALLY fell in love with for a girl, so fabulous choice! If Glen and I end up with two girls, our second on is most likely going to be named Evelyn Renata {after my late grandmother}. Another meaning I found for Evelyn a while ago is "beautiful bird", which I think fits an adorable little girl =). {Yeah, I'm one of those people who are into the whole meaning of the name ;-).}

You and your little one are in my prayers constantly! I pray you go to term and have a nice, squirmy, healthy young girl =D

Ooh, I love it too! It's perfect with Elise!

I have this girls name that I absolutely adore, still haven't sold Aaron on it (but I've got about 7 1/2 months to keep trying) and I have SO many friends having little girls in the next few months so I always sigh a big breath of relief when another girl having friend doesn't use the name. Haha. I'm probably having a boy so there is nothing to worry about anyway

:-D

Anywhoo...excellent choice!

my son's name is Laine! where did you get if from for Ellie's middle name? or did you just like it? We loved Laine and spelt it with the "i" because my cousin made a guy with the surname Lane

Hi Leah!

In college (is it always called university in Australia? can't remember) when I was a Resident Assistant in the dorms, I had two Rebecca's in my dorm section of 12 or 13 girls and they were roommates. So one went by her middle name. I can't remember if her full middle name was Elaine, but she went by Laine (and still does). And I've loved the name since. As it turned out, Elaine is my grandma's middle name so it was a win-win. :)

Thanks Emily! yep in australia we call college university! I meant to say on my comment my cousin "married" a guy with the last name Lane not "made" a guy! sorry- sounded really dumb when I just re read my previous comment! I really like Laine for a girls name, my Laine is 9 and what a rockstar he is! I have 4 kids all together, 2 boys- Jake 13 and Laine 9 and 2 girls- Britt 11 and Fallon 7. I have been reading your blog for a while, I love hearing about Ellie! My sister has just spent 10 weeks in hospital 700km away from home with grade 4 placenta previa, she ended up having her little boy Jett 8 weeks early, he is now 6 weeks old and safe and well at home! She has 2 girls aged 5 and 2 as well, so it was an awful time as she was away from them for the 10 long weeks ( they stayed with me and my mum when her husband worked or was with my sister)It was nice to read about Ellie's progress when little Jett was struggling and seeing her so healthy! Love little Evie's name too, so cute , Ellie and Evie sound beautiful together! Best wishes with the rest of your pregnancy and I will keep reading your blog from all the way over here in australia!
Love Leah

What's funny, Leah, is that I didn't even noticed the "made" instead of "married." So no worries, I have mommy and pregnancy brain and would have never noticed if you hadn't pointed it out (which might be a sad thing since I majored in journalism in college/university and have always been a grammar nut).

If I had paid more attention, I would have also mentioned that it's funny that you have a cousin with the last name Lane in addition to a son named Laine because my friend Laine married a guy whose last name is Lane. So she's Laine Lane. :)

that's so funny!!!!! does she go by that name all the time or use her maiden name? My middle name rhymes with my married surname...I really hate saying my full name when I have to for ID reasons etc LOL. I have a friend whose name is Stacey and her married name is now Stacey Casey! lol
love Leah
PS what time is it in the US, it is sunday 14th 2.46pm here...just curious!

She uses his surname. Since her real first name is Rebekah (which I spelled wrong the first time around), I'd imagine she uses that for more official stuff. But I'm not sure since I don't talk with her often. :)

It's now 8:37pm on Saturday. And it's daylight savings tomorrow so we'll be putting our clocks ahead an hour.
