Wow, 28 weeks! Can't believe how quickly the time has flown by. I don't have an updated photo, as I didn't really like the ones I took this weekend. But I thought I'd mention that I'm 28 weeks today!
I go in for my next doctor appointment next Wednesday (and have my glucose screening). After that, I'll be on the every-2-week appointment schedule. More to come.

Nursery
We now have Ellie's crib, mattress, quilt and bumper. (Her bed skirt is back ordered but should come at some point before she's born.) We haven't set anything up yet, but here are the store photos so you begin to get a feel for her nursery.

Bump Update
Here I am at 26 weeks, 2 days.

I find taking good photos like these (who seriously looks good standing sideways and then facing the camera??) to be quite challenging. Although my hubby has graciously tried hard to assist me, I end up making him take multiple shots and still don't like any of them. So as to keep myself from blaming him for the fact that I just don't like pictures of myself from this angle, I devised a scheme for taking my own photos tonight. I stacked a TV tray on top of a chair. Genius, huh?

Stubborn Already
Baby Elise is moving tons these days, including jumping on my bladder, tickling me, hiccuping, wiggling, sliding, kicking, punching, etc. She enjoys thwacking the dog when he's lying on or next to my tummy. The family member she stops moving for? Dad. That's right, she's stubborn already. It seems that no matter how much she's been moving around or for how long she almost always stops when Kit puts his hand on my stomach, even when he puts his hand in the exact same place with the exact same pressure that my hand has been. Rebelling already. Phew, looks like we've got an independent little girl on our hands.
Can't imagine where she gets it from...

Doctor Appointment
Everything went well. The moment the doppler hit my tummy, Elise's little heartbeat came through loud and clear. Normally the doctor has to search a bit so I took this as a sign of her having grown much more in the past month.
My uterus measured at 25 cm, right on track.
And I got to take home my orange-flavored Glucola for my glucose screening at my next appointment. Bleh!
After my appointment next month, I'll start going in every two weeks. Can't believe I'm that far along already. The time is flying by!

Stretch Marks
Well, I had high hopes that I would make it through this pregnancy with no stretch marks on my ever growing tummy. I have three small ones that have come on since pregnancy and have old ones from growth spurts when I was younger. Although none of these are on my stomach, I guess I should have known what was coming...
This morning I discovered my first two small stretch marks on the lower half of my belly. Neither one is even an inch long, but I'm sure they'll get there.
Oh joy!
On a truly happy note, we have our regular monthly check up with the doctor this morning. I'll try to remember to post the info tonight.

A-OK
For the past couple of days, I've been having some uncomfortable hardening of my stomach and pelvic pains. This morning I awoke in horrible pain and had to go back to bed because I couldn't sit or stand comfortably. I called my doctor's office shortly after they opened, and they said to come in because I might have a UTI.
The UA only showed slightly elevated leukocytes and no UTI. So then the midwife (my doctor isn't in on Thursdays) said I might be constipated (oh joy) but needed to do a cervical exam to ensure nothing was wrong there. Though my cervix was closed (TMI I know, but someone probably cares about that fact besides me), she thought it might be shortened. So she sent me over the hospital where I spent the next 3.5 hours having non-stress testing for uterine movement to ensure I wasn't having preterm contracts, getting blood drawn and getting an ultrasound for "fetal well being and cervical length."
End of the story is that I'm apparently constipated (though I haven't noticed that I've gone any less than usual) and need to increase my fluids and fiber. Praise the Lord it wasn't anything else!
On the plus side, I got to see Elise again today. She's still a girl and was as adorable as ever. She had her little hands by her face and even posed for a cute side profile photo. I'll post the photos soon - all three are of the same pose but the gal's printer was running out of ink so she tried printing three times. Oh, and during the testing for uterine movement, she kicked a lot - some of which I could actually see moving the monitor and belt that were attached to my stomach.
This also means that I survived my first real trip to the hospital. I went to the ER once for a migraine but that's all my exposure has been. I even had my own room for those few hours in the labor and delivery portion of the hospital. I also got to ride on a gurney (felt super silly) from the maternity center down to the imaging center and then back up again.

A Little Music Appreciation
Tonight the pug and I have been spending some quality time cuddling in bed while I look up various baby things online because I had a long day and am super tired. I have iTunes playing through random songs for a bit of a musical interlude. Ellie seems to appreciate the music. Nearly each time a new song starts, she kicks a few times. And then occasionally she kicks at key points during the songs.
Glad our little lady has a good sense of music appreciation already...or at least that I can pretend she does.

The Little Goob
In case you haven't already heard, I am going to be a big brother! They don't let dogs in doctor's offices unless you have special training so I couldn't go in for the ultre-sound appointment today. Mommy, daddy and grandma went though and...
It's a girl!
P.S. I won't be sharing my snicker-poodle-poos with her.
P.P.S. I forgot to announce her name: Elise (Ellie) Laine.

A Slight Delay
A multi-vehicle car accident has closed 1-5 South on which my mom is traveling to be here for my appointment. So she's stuck. Praise the Lord (a) that she didn't get on the road as quickly as she had planned or she might have been involved in the accident and (b) that my doctor had an appointment this afternoon that we could switch to. So the countdown is out further by 4 hours and 45 minutes. That means that in approximately 5 hours and 12 minutes we'll be seeing our little one!!!

One More Day
In approximately one day, 3 hours and 20 minutes, we will be starting our appointment!! Can't believe it's already almost here!
On another note, Kit made Coco some homemade dog treats called Snicker-Poodle-Poos on Tuesday night. Coco will have to tell you all about them later; he's slightly obsessed.

21 Weeks
21 weeks today! Yippee! So excited and loving being pregnant - minus the exhaustion part. In approximately 2 days, 3 hours and 24 minutes, we will be beginning our appointment to see our little one again!!
Yesterday I was walking something into my boss' office and walking rather expediently while turning a small corner; then I sneezed. I've had pains in sneezing for some time now, but I'm usually sitting, standing in place, or realize it in time to stop moving. This time I didn't, and boy, did it hurt! I had to lean, hunched over, against the tall counter for quite a few extra moments before the pain subsided. I'm so amazed at what a different being pregnant makes on your body. So interesting.
On another note, I've been feeling the baby's hands moving lately in addition to it's feet merely moving (not just kicking). Love it!

Baby Bump
Here's my most recent baby bump photo. I've decided that it's awkward to try to stand facing one direction while looking sideways and trying not to make your body look strangely contorted. Ah well.
On Friday we'll get to see our little one again!!! We're very excited! My mom's coming down for the ultrasound; it'll be wonderful to have the two most important people in my life there to see our newest family member. And we're hoping the baby will be cooperative and let us know whether s/he is a boy or girl. Phew, I'm stoked!

A Little Kicker
Kit says I haven't posted recently enough so here's a quick one (though I have a couple of others I've been meaning to do as well). Our little one has been kicking quite a bit lately. It's so fun to have this secret little kicking going on where no one knows about it other than me unless I tell someone.
On my mom's birthday (January 1st), Kit felt the baby kick for the first time. He's been trying for a couple of weeks, but the baby had always stopped moving each time he'd try to feel. It's been a bit strange actually, especially given the fact that the baby kicks Coco all the time when he's lying next to my yummy. Kit made the most entertaining face after feeling it - part genuine smile, part wrinkled face that said, "That felt more like gas than a kick." I found the entire moment quite hilarious. Shortly thereafter, my mom felt the baby as well.
I'm still not to the point where anyone who doesn't know me says anything to me about being pregnant (based on appearances), but I suppose that day will come soon. Lots of people look at my belly (and then look away embarrassed if they see me watching them). And most people to whom I mention being pregnant say, "I was wondering..." Kit did tell me the other day at the store very matter of factly, "You do look pregnant, just so you know." Little did he know, it meant a lot. :)
Well, I need to get to bed. I was going to hope in bed 30 minutes ago.

Merry Christmas
Today has been a fantastic day. We decided to sleep in, enjoying our last year for many years in which we won't have children to wake us up. Mom accidentally told her mom that we'd be getting up early so she ended up being our wake up call at 8:30am.
We opened presents first, and had a great time. Daddy helped me to get mommy an iTunes gift card, and mommy helped me to get daddy a card (and to sign it with my very own paw print). They both enjoyed my gifts.
They explained that Santa had a hard time getting to Meat for Cats & Dogs to pick up my favorite bones so that's why I don't have any yet, but they promised I'll get some soon. Santa did get me this great toy I didn't even know existed. It's fantastic and even squeaks. Thanks, Santa - I believe now.
Mommy and daddy bought each other lots of presents. Daddy took the cake though by getting mommy a gift certificate to Dosha for a pre-natal massage. Daddy says his massages just aren't as good as he knows mommy needs so now mommy can go get a nice official massage.
Daddy liked his chocolate-y stocking stuffers. I tried to enjoy them by chewing on the end of dad's full stocking, but mommy wouldn't let me.
Don't worry, mommy's not trying to bring back the bodysuit. Daddy is a genius and bought this cute onesie for the baby.
"How to Traumatize Your Children" aka what to do with kids but by doing the opposite of what the book says. A little reverse psychology test from mommy to daddy.
Daddy showing of his much needed new robe. I clearly found much more interesting things going on outside the patio door.

Baby Bump
Here you have it. My first official baby bump photo (since I now think it might actually look like a baby bump).
Don't mind the awkward smile on my face...I took this in our only partially completed bathroom with the construction light on (sitting on the floor, hence the odd glow in the bottom left portion of the photo).

Happy, Healthy & Kicking
Kit and I went in for my 17-week check up today. The baby's heartbeat sounds good and apparently I've only put on 3 more pounds. So I'm at about 5 pounds gained total.
My doctor's not really into caring much about weight gain as long as the baby is healthy (and has been that way since my mother-in-law saw him during her pregnancies nearly 30 years ago) so I didn't get any praise. But I am glad. We don't own a scale so I always get a little nervous that I'll go in and get a lecture about gaining too much like I hear about friends getting.
Oh, and this time the nice assistant remembered that I'm not a skinny as she'd like to think I am and went straight for the 150 starting point when weighing me. It's never fun (though it's quite humorous for me personally) to watch them try lower and then have to slide the weight the end only to start over at the next 50-pound bracket. I haven't been under 150 pounds since junior high/early high school so it's always slightly humorous to me that anyone would think I was that light. But I've been told I hide it well so I guess I should take it as a compliment.
And for those who don't know me well enough, I could really care less about my actual weight in numbers so don't get worried that I'm not going to put on enough weight with the baby for fear of the scale. I'm just glad that my eating hasn't gotten too out of control so that loosing the weight later won't be as difficult (which is a healthy mentality according to all of the pregnancy books and websites).
Finally, I am fairly positive I felt the baby kick this afternoon!!! I've decided s/he must enjoy moving most (a) when I'm working and (b) when I have a hard object approximately 1.5 inches thick near her/him. Normally I feel the most movement at work sitting at my desk, with my desk touching my tummy. And today I worked from home and felt the kicks while sitting on the couch with the bottom of my laptop leaning on my tummy.

Momentous Occasion
I felt the baby move for the first time today!!!
And actually, s/he was moving quite frequently throughout the day. I've often heard the movements described as butterfly-like; however, I think of fluttering when I think of butterflies. To me it feels more like a moth, which I think of of as being smaller and more vibrating. I realize that many butterflies are small, but I just don't think it feels butterfly-like.
I am very excited and hope the little one continues to signal me of his/her presence further.

Second Doctor Appointment
We went in for my second doctor appointment this morning. I was a bit nervous; however, all was well. He used that famed Doppler technology, and we got to hear both my and the baby's heartbeat. I read in multiple places how amazing it is when you can hear the heartbeat with the Doppler, but I thought it sounded much more clear with my ultrasound last time. Maybe I'm crazy - or maybe my doctor just has an awesome ultrasound machine and an ok Doppler.
All that to say, both mom and baby are healthy! Yippee!!
Oh, and big thanks to my brother Sean who assisted me in finally getting the baby ticker to work on my blog. Everyone pregnant seems to have one so I thought I'd join the fun a few weeks ago. Everything I tried gave me errors; however, Sean was able to master the HTML craziness on Blogger for me.

An Update from the Pug
Well, somehow it seems that I haven't found much time to blog lately. Mom has been feeling ill much of the time (though the nausea seems to have mostly passed in the last few days) so I've been being the loyal pug that I am and keeping her company. This morning she slept in until 8:00 due to being extremely exhausted despite lots of sleep. I, again being the loyal pug that I am, got in bed with her for the last hour and a half and then proceeded to keep the bed warm (in case she wanted to come back to bed) until 9:00.
Other than sleeping a lot, I haven't been up to much. Just chilling and eating my most recent bone, which mom gave me on Saturday but keeps taking away whenever they aren't home. I've decided that it might be slightly immature to hork down the last knotted section in each bone (yes, I actually swallowed large portions of bone whole quite a few times) and actually untied that knot as well this time. So I'm working on that right now. Pretty good stuff.
I'm really not too sure how I feel about this whole baby thing. I mean, mom's looking a little on the chubby side and for some reason they keep talking about this baby. I really wish they'd talk about me more. I mean, sheesh, I've been in the family for much longer than this baby character. And I believe I stated when Joel was here visiting that I was okay with not having a baby around for a while. So whose idea was it to bring this baby character into the mix?
Have I mentioned that I'm clearly being neglected? When she's feeling really sick, mom even sometimes rubs her own belly instead of mine! What is this world coming to?
